North-South Arterial Road

The area around the North-South Arterial Road has been under long-term and continuous examination and transformation, but it has not yet been integrated into the urban structure. This key artery, which protects the historical city centre from traffic, is considered an eyesore for Prague and an imaginary zip that divides the city into two parts. Petr Hlaváček believes that the situation is not unsolvable and that itis important to have a professional dialogue on this topic, which is why he initiated a discussion in September 2020 on this public space and organised the first conference, Arterial Road I – Concept and Vision.

The aim of the first workshop was to summarise the basic principles of the possible transformation of the arterial road and its surroundings in historical approaches and contemporary concepts.

At the end of August 2021, the second follow-up conference, Arterial Road II – Current Issues, took place. It focused on individual sites and aimed to provide up-to-date information and possibilities for their future transformation in the context of the North-SouthArterial Road. The conference participants worked together to find a shared vision for the development of this central public space.
